What we do

Admissions & Student Recruitment (ASRS) is part of External Relations. We handle applicants from Enquiry through to Application and Matriculation. Thereafter students are supported by Academic Schools, Student Support Services and Registry

Our core activities relate to:

  • Undergraduate courses
  • Taught Postgraduate courses
  • Research degrees
  • UK applicants
  • EU applicants
  • International applicants
  • Students elsewhere who are coming on an exchange or visiting programme
  • University of Dundee students or staff who are planning an exchange or visiting programme
  • Access & Participation activities, including DUAL Summer School

We do not currently process applications for distance learning or CPD courses, but we assist with the marketing of them via the University website.

Who we are

Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions – Dr Shane Collins


Marketing Communications and Management Information Team – led by Karen Martin

  • Responsible for directing all student recruitment marketing and communications activity across all channels and liaising with College Marketing Teams
  • Producing promotional publications including the University prospectuses, online programme listings and email newsletters, and providing guidance to academic schools on marketing programmes 
  • Managing the corporate and promotional gifts orders from Schools and Colleges
  • Managing and updating content on the MyDundee for Applicants School organisations
  • Providing management information via SITS and Cognos to all staff. This includes providing reports via MyDundee for Staff (ARMI) - information requests

Operations Team – led by Dr Wendy Webster

  • Technical, business and data issues associated with enquirers and applicants, including SITS, eVision, UCAS Apply and UKPASS
  • This includes programming letters/emails to be sent to applicants – which Schools can run themselves. Such letters/emails are then recorded in SITS, so there is an audit trail – this is the recommended method of communicating with applicants.
  • Implementation of SITS related admissions projects, such as Paperless Processing, using UKPASS for Research applications etc

UK/EU Recruitment Team – led by Ali Clark

  • On campus visits, including campus-wide Visit Days, Post Applicant Visits, Individual Applicant Visits, Discovering Degrees for Schools etc
  • Off campus visits, our team of Recruitment Officers attend school careers events, give talks and present workshops in schools and colleges across Scotland, the rest of the UK and the EU
  • Recruitment Officers represent the institution at the series of UCAS Conventions and some Postgraduate Fairs across the whole of the UK

Access and Participation Team – led by Dr John Blicharski

Undergraduate Admissions Team – led by Kirsten Swankie

  • The Information Assistants process application forms, via UCAS, and UCAS Teacher Training (UTT)
  • The Admissions Officers make decisions on UCAS applications for most non-interviewing courses
  • The Information Assistants are the first point of contact for applicants with queries - they record our offers to applicants, and their decisions, plus update conditional offers when exam results are known
  • The Admissions team manages access to MyDundee for Applicants by sending all applicants their access details by email upon receipt of their application
  • UCAS & UTT Clearing is co-ordinated by the Undergraduate Admissions Manager

Postgraduate and International Admissions Team – led by Gillian Sharp

  • Full Admissions process for all Undergraduate International, Global Programmes, Taught Postgraduate and Research - UK/EU and International applicants.
  • Process all applications from the above level of study programmes, via UCAS, UKPASS, IPP and Direct routes
  • Ensure all International applicants meet the UKVI requirements for entry the University and process CASs for visa purposes for all International applicants as part of the Points Based Immigration System (Tier 4)
  • Incoming and outgoing applications for ERASMUS, Transatlantic and Australasian Student & Staff Exchanges are processed by the Global Programmes Team
  • The Global Programmes Team also processes applications for other income generating programmes which the University has formal partnerships with such as, Study Abroad, EU Free Mover, 3+1+1, Science without Borders (Brazil), medical electives, IMU Malaysia

International Recruitment Team

  • The International Recruitment Officers are the first point of contact for academics with any queries regarding international qualifications, overseas institutions etc. and make offers on most international undergraduate applications
  • The International Recruitment Officers handle our Overseas Representatives (Agents)
  • The International Recruitment Officers visit targeted counties and institutions overseas, speaking at schools and universities, attending careers fairs and visiting our Overseas Representatives - external facing pages
  • Possible market or partnership opportunities are identified by International Recruitment Officers and fed back to Schools/Colleges as appropriate

International Development

  • Identifies University-wide research links and funding opportunities
  • Manages international partnerships, agreements, articulations and MOUs across the University
  • Coordinates the Principal’s international activity and trips
  • Manages all international visits by overseas institutions to the University
