Bio
Dr. Connolly obtained a BSc in Microbiology from University College Dublin (2009) before moving to the University of Glasgow to complete a MRes (2010) and PhD in Molecular Bacteriology (2015). He remained at Glasgow as a postdoctoral research associate for 4 years before moving to Newcastle University as a Faculty Fellow in 2019 to start his own lab. In 2020 he won a Springboard award from the Academy of Medical Sciences, and in 2022 secured an MRC Career Development Award and a permanent group leader position within the Newcastle University Bioscience Institute.
His research is focused on understanding how gene expression is controlled in pathogens that infect different host sites, how the host environment shapes gene expression changes and how these regulatory mechanisms may contribute to disease phenotypes
