Preparing for the complexity of professional practice
Thursday 12 January 2023
Lecture delivered by Dr Beth Hannah - Winner of Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching
How do we help prepare students for professional practice? Problem based learning is an approach which was introduced to the MSc Educational Psychology programme in 2002 due to the anticipated benefits in students’ learning. Problem based learning involves the use of complex, messy problem triggers to reflect real life. Students take responsibility for their learning; engage in independent and collaborative learning; and apply their new learning to the problem scenario. This approach to teaching
and learning has been valued by students and future employers in helping prepare students for the complexity of professional practice.
