Bio

Biography

Linda has been teaching for over 20 years in a range of schools across Stirling, Falkirk and Fife. She gained her B.Ed. (Hons) from Moray House Institute of Education and returned to Edinburgh University to continue studying for her Chartered Teacher qualification, which focussed on Literature Circles, Active Learning and Behaviour Management. Linda has also gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in Higher Education from the University of Dundee and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is currently working towards her MEd.

Teaching

In the classroom, Linda has taught all stages and has worked in a variety of schools and communities. She has taught mostly in the upper stages and has cultivated an inclusive environment by fostering positive relationships and independent learners. Linda undertook leadership roles in literacy, numeracy, enterprise, ICT and Rich Tasks/IDL. Linda also helped develop a whole school approach to Spelling, Literature Circles and investigated the impact of flexible grouping in her class.

Linda spent three years on secondment to Fife’s Pedagogy Team who were formed as part of the Breaking the Cycle of Disadvantage initiative and tasked with improving outcomes in Literacy, Numeracy and Nurture for children living in areas of disadvantage across Fife. This meant Linda has engaged with extensive research in these areas in order to develop training materials for primary and high school teachers. Linda also worked closely with teachers and their classes to develop her understanding while implementing theory into practice.

Research

Linda's research interests include: research-informed educational practices in literacy and numeracy; conceptual development in numeracy; outddor learning; effective teaching and learning in schools and higher education.
