Bio

Biography

Victoria is a lecturer in the School of Education, Social Work and Community Education and teaches across the Social Work and Community Learning and Development programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Victoria has a broad range of professional experience from both the social work and community development fields in the UK and internationally. Since gaining her PhD in Social Work from Durham University she has taught across a range of postgraduate and undergraduate programmes including social work, international development and community education.

Victoria’s research interests centre on social justice and challenging global inequalities across the fields of social work, community development and the arts. With an explicit international and interdisciplinary focus, her work aims to bring together different forms of knowledge and understanding to positively influence professional practice. This draws on her doctoral action research project examining children and young people’s participation in NGOs in São Paulo, Brazil. This work highlighted the deeply emotional nature of working inclusively and it is this aspect that continues to be her primary research focus. Victoria is fluent in Portuguese and is passionate about bringing together knowledges from across the world to challenge and further develop professional practices.
