During Octoder 2015, we were pleased to welcome Jan Oberdieck from the University of Göttingen, Germany (http://www.uni-goettingen.de/en/1.html.
He joined us for two weeks through an Erasmus staff mobility scheme to learn more about our edr Service. At the time he was studying towards his Master of Mediation degree (which he has now completed since returning to Germany). During his visit he attended several mediation meetings and met with many University staff members and mediators.
Jan has sent the following message regarding his visit and his views on the edr Service:
"During my time at the University of Dundee, I had the opportunity to have a close look at the edrService. With this Service the University of Dundee provides a very good opportunity for their staff to find solutions to their conflicts. It is natural that conflicts occur, especially in a diverse environment of a university. The advantage of having a mediation service is that it enables University staff to take care of, and responsibility for, their own conflicts and thereby offers the chance to deal with the complexity every conflict contains. Not only from my view as a mediator, but also as a University employee, the University of Dundee can only be congratulated for offering this service to staff and students.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the University of Dundee for offering me the chance to gain this insight. I wish all the best to the edr Service and all the staff at the University, for they will be able to solve a lot of conflicts together and get to a better mutual understanding."
Update - October 2017
Jan has now set up his own mediation business - Mediation Oberdieck.
