Edwin Janssen is an artist and researcher. Previously worked for the Foundation for Visual Art, Design and Architecture, Amsterdam and Programme Leader at the Academy of Art and Design, Arnhem, the Netherlands. Edwin teaches on undergraduate students and leads several modules at the MFA Art, Society and Publics programme. In 2014 he won the ‘Most Inspirational Teaching of Undergraduates’ in the Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) student-led Teaching Award.

Edwin's PhD explored artist-led curatorial practice, institutional critique, museum culture and cultural recycling. He participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums such as Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires, Argentina; Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, the Netherlands; Museum Fridericianum, Kassel, Germany and Wiener Secession, Vienna, Austria.

He also curated ‘Commitment’ (Las Palmas, Rotterdam), a presentation of works and projects by 120 visual artists, designers and architects who work in the Netherlands, commissioned by the Foundation for Visual Art, Design and Architecture, Amsterdam.

Since 1997 Edwin collaborates with Professor Tracy Mackenna. Their joint practice is a creative and discursive site where production, presentation, exchange, education and research meet. Creative investigations focus on issues of life and death, cultural identity, notions of place, and visual publishing. Tracy Mackenna & Edwin Janssen exhibit and share widely.

Their ongoing project ‘The Museum of Loss and Renewal’ (TMoLaR) is a mobile discursive platform that creates space for sharing experiences to further the understanding of the challenges we face in our individual and communal lives.

As the curators of this autarchic museum, Tracy Mackenna & Edwin Janssen art projects that address issues of societal concern such as wellbeing, end of life and sustainability. TMoLaR is a vehicle that enables the consideration of how to lead a more balanced life.
