Neurology – the anatomy, function and pathology of the nerves and nervous system - is consistently rated by students as being one of the most challenging and intimidating specialties in the medical curriculum. Students not only need to have a solid grounding in the vastly complex anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, but they also need to learn how to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting. At Dundee Medical School in particular, a need was identified for a resource that could summarise some of the key concepts being taught as part of the third-year neurology teaching block, in a way that was more succinct and less overwhelming than existing revision materials. The resulting ‘sketchnotes’ – 15 pages of illustrated notes that cover core topics in neurology such as the anatomy of the spinal nerves, body innervation maps and radiculopathy - can be printed out, coloured in, annotated, or even used digitally. Have a go yourself!
