As humans, we are naturally intrigued by other humans, the way we differ, the way we relate. Through digital photography, I have explored a range of people, who fascinate me in different ways. These portraits capture the essence of a person, often in a candid light. The direct eye contact of the model with the audience adds a discomfort to these pieces. Both natural and man-made pattern interests me and so I have frequently sought out people who have freckly skin, curly hair or piercings. I capture my models in natural lighting wearing no make-up. Their face then becomes a raw canvas of possibilities, allowing me to enhance the earthly textures, imperfections and natural colour palette of their skin which already exists.
