Drew Mackie

I am a multidisciplinary artist who explores a variety of materials and mediums in the effort to achieve aesthetic perfection through ephemeral mortality. This idea of ephemeral mortality explores the idea that death is not the end but the beginning of a new chapter. The theme of the natural world is deeply rooted in my practice. My artworks contain many inspirations from the natural world such as trees, rock formations and plants. Most of my artworks and techniques intersect the line between art and design in the effort of creating something which is not only beautiful but also functional. This concept seeps through each of my carefully nurtured artworks, helping them evolve and flourish into fully aesthetically pleasing specimens.

Artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, Anna Atkins, Mariele Neudecker, Ken Currie, Anslem Kiefer, The Starn Twins and Jerry Uelsmann have influenced many of my creations over the last few years. Their themes of nature, decay and conflict inspire my colour palette and imagery. Through my artistic miens I aim to draw attention to the new evolving relationship between personal creativity and environmental responsibility. I hope to highlight the beauty and fragility of our natural surroundings and how much we have to lose if we do not protect our environment for future generations.

I seek to experiment with the essence of the project and transfer it to a series of prints or a sculptural form which may convey my ideas to best effect and to a wider audience.
