Molly McCammon

Although children's books are primarily for children, I aim to create stories which are just as fun and thought-provoking for the adults reading them. When making a picture book, I always start with the writing - the writing is what inspires my image-making. Then once I have come up with a concept, I start sketching, painting and collaging on big pieces of mixed-media paper. I scan these pieces in and manipulate them digitally, as little as possible so I do not lose the traditional qualities. I find both the writing and illustrating of the books so fun, but there is no doubt that the reaction of the reader's is where I gain the most joy.
