Maria Tolia

My work comprises of loosely associated visual sequences. Characters and figures are presented in nonsensical scenes, with an element of performativity, a sense of action suggested but never given. By keeping a small scale and using the format of sketchbooks, handmade books, objects and characters made out of paper I want people to come closer and explore the work. My board games which have no rules are another means of inviting the audience to create their own narrative. The purpose is to read the images, let them trigger the imagination and evoke multiple interpretations.
