Ruth Martin

I have always been drawn to creating work with a function. This year, I decided to work with a range of materials to explore how illustration can be applied to different functional outcomes. I enjoy working within limitations, so restrictive processes such as risograph printing are common in my practice. Each of my personal projects this year have touched on a different interest of mine, such as Greek mythology, or places of importance to me. / My style has begun to take a more abstract turn and I have enjoyed being able to convey an idea through the use of colour and shape. Working with composition and balance in an image has become a far more important aspect of my work and is something I will continue to explore. I love for a finished project to have a tactile nature, and have found myself using printmaking and ceramics throughout my time at art school to achieve this - and will continue to use both processes as I progress beyond art school.
