During my final year I have been working on three projects. For the D&AD New Blood competition I created an advertising campaign to attract the younger generation towards Burger Kings ‘Flame Grilled’ unique burgers. My personal project is a rebrand of a Well-established Acupuncture Clinic situated in the North of Scotland. Lastly I created a typographic publication for the International Society of Typographic Designers which is shown in the featured image. Titled ‘Wabi-Sabi no Washoku’, the ISTD publication explores the subject of modern and traditional Japanese cuisine from the culture’s strict etiquette and traditional food to it’s modern twists, with real anecdotes from Japan’s food scene. The term ‘Wabi-sabi’ is an ancient Japanese philosophy focused on accepting the imperfect and transient nature of life. In this context, the title translates to ‘The imperfect and transient nature of Japanese cuisine’. The publication is designed as two contemporary books ‘Wabi’ and ‘Sabi’ in a Japanese style bound; a five-hole noble bind. I chose to these terms to describe each book as a contrast and harmony of one and other, as well as sounding similar to the familiar word ‘Wasabi’. The ‘Wabi’ book content focuses on traditional etiquette whereas ‘Sabi’ focuses on food itself with stories from the modern era, to give the reader a true understanding of Japanese food culture.
