The purpose of this paper is to design a Scottish ‘vernacular’ building by using local resources and the knowledge. The types of Scottish rural architecture will be studied to observe some correlation between their characteristics. Then, their characteristics could be adopted in modern rural architecture. Moreover, this paper will continue to explore the feasibility of low energy consumption design of rural building in the local environment to propose a more appropriate and responsive to the surrounding environment and sustainable rural architecture in the remote rural village.
