Out of the three dedicated Energy Law centres in the UK, the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee is the oldest and remains the largest and most influential in the UK and internationally.

Our faculty has held positions at the Universities of Madrid (Autonoma), MGIMO (Moscow), Singapore (NUS), Max-Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law, International Law in Heidelberg (Germany), Columbia Law School in New York, Institute of State and Law of the USSR (Russian) Academy of Sciences, University of Leiden in The Netherlands, and Robert Schuman Centre in the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. 

Research Interests:

Oil and Gas Law, International Energy Investment Law, Liberalisation and Privatisation of Electricity and Gas Industries, International Environmental Law, International Law of Natural Resources, Law of the Sea,  International Court of Justice (ICJ), Law of International Organisations, Transnational Law, Regulation of Cross-Border Investment, and Dispute Negotiations through Arbitration.

Our faculty have combined their research and teaching in International Law with an active practice as an advocate before international courts and tribunals 

Faculty Highlights:

Pieter Bekker is a member of the American Bar Association’s Section of International Law (former Chair, International Courts Committee), the American Society of International Law (former Executive Council and Nominating Committee member (elected)), the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, the International Chamber of Commerce (Commission on Arbitration and ADR), and the American and Dutch Branches of the International Law Association (Chair, Committee on Intergovernmental Settlement of Disputes (2008-2013). 

Peter Cameron was elected as Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2013. He is co-Director of the International Centre for Energy Arbitration and has been an honorary Professorial Fellow at Edinburgh University’s Europa Institute.

Sergei Vinogradov is a co-editor of the series of books “International and National Water Law and Policy” and a co-editor of the “Water Law and Policy Series”.  He has also acted as Legal Advisor to UNECE, UNESCO, UNEP, World Bank and other international and donor agencies in drafting and negotiating intergovernmental agreements for the Caspian and Black seas, the Dniester and Kura River basins, and national water- and environment-related legislation.  Additionally, Sergei was elected as Member of the International Council for Environmental Law (Bonn) and was a member of the Water Resources Committee of the International Law Association and of the Commission on Environmental Law of the IUCN/World Conservation Union.
