Wednesday Speaker Dr Darren McCauley

This week’s Wednesday visiting speaker was Dr Darren McCauley from University of St. Andrews who spoke about achieving energy justice in the global south. The talk was chaired by Dr Thomas Muinzer.

Dr. Darren McCauley is Senior Lecturer in Sustainable Development at the University of St. Andrews. He is notably the Director of the St. Andrews Sustainability Institute. He also established and leads the joint St. Andrews - Moscow State Arctic Research Centre. He has extensive research experience in the fields of energy justice and the just transition. His research has been funded by a wide range of external bodies including the British Council, ESRC, EPSRC, Carnegie, European Commission, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Scottish Funding Council. This has funded qualitative and quantitative field work on a range of energy issues throughout the world, including biogas in Vietnam, oil and gas in the Russian Arctic, nuclear energy in the UK and Canada and more recently hydropower and mini grids in Malawi and Uganda. He will soon take up a new position in January 2020 as the Chair in the "Management of International Social Challenges" at Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
