Land Rights in the perspective of Energy and Mining Projects in Uganda.

CEPMLP’s Dr. Victoria Nalule, a Research Fellow at the Extractive Hub was invited as an Energy Expert Witness before the Commission of Inquiry into Land Matters in Uganda chaired by Justice Catherine Bamugemereire. Her presentation focused on Land Rights in the perspective of Energy and Mining Projects in Uganda. Following her presentation, the Commission formally requested for a policy brief on the subject aimed at guiding policy makers with respect to land and extractives in Uganda.
Further, facilitated by Ms. Mariam Kiggundu, the Hub Champion for Uganda, Dr. Nalule also held various meetings with energy experts and policy makers including a meeting with Mr. Robert Kasande, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development of Uganda; Dr. Badru Kiggundu, Senior Presidential Adviser, Infrastructure and Public works; both Mr. Edgar Tusingwire and Ignitius Okanya of the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC). The meetings focused on deepening the cooperation between the Extractive Hub, CEMPLP and the Ugandan government.
