CEPMLP PhD Student delivers talk at OPEC Workshop

As a result of the 2019 CEPMLP Dundee Energy Forum, Theresia Betty Sumarno, a PhD Candidate was invited to deliver a talk at the 1st OPEC – ECS – OFID ANNUAL LEGAL WORKSHOP. She presented on "Attracting Energy Investment through Taxation Policy, a Case Study on Coal Bed Methane Fiscal Regimes in Indonesia, the U.S. and Australia." The workshop was attended by representatives from OPEC Member Countries, consultancies, as well as international energy institutions.
Theresia started her talk with an introduction, and then spoke about the advantages and opportunities that she has received as a result of studying at CEPMLP. During her talk she provided an overview of the issues that can happen in any energy project, and what changes in the fiscal policy could possibly address these issues and re-gain the attractiveness of energy investment in a country.
Mr. Nadir Guerer, the Senior Research Analyst at OPEC who is also the personal assistant of Mr. Mohammad Barkindo (the OPEC's Secretary General) said "Theresia's presentation was excellent and very down to earth. She touched the fundamental issues of the member countries in her talk. Her talk was very topical and specific, yet very accurate." At the end of the event, she received a certificate of recognition for being a Speaker at the OPEC Secretariat, and was handed the cretificate directly by the OPEC's Secretary General.
In addition to the talk, she was also involved in a collaborative meeting between CEPMLP and OPEC at the Secretary General's office.
