What Family and Local History courses does CAIS offer?

CAIS offers a range of options from full Masters degrees to short introductory courses. All courses focus on understanding and anlysing records and sources to assist in research into family and local history whether you are just starting out or hoping to pursue a career as a genealogist or local historian. You can choose from the following courses:

The programmes are all delivered by online distance learning and relate to sources in the whole of the UK. You study from home and can be based anywhere in the world and, depending on choice, can study from 6 weeks to 5 years. Our courses:

  • teach skills and methods to help you investigate your family history or the history of your neighbourhood
  • provide you with the ability to identify, read and interpret original UK source material to enrich your research
  • help you develop an understanding of records and archives, why they were created and kept and how they can be used
  • allow you to study in your own time in a fully supported environment
  • are taught by experts who are genealogists and professional archivists

Postgraduate and short courses are accredited by the Archives & Records Association UK & Ireland and recognised by the Association of Scottish Genealogists and Researchers. CAIS Masters students are eligible to join the Register of Qualified Genealogists.
