This guide explains the rules around which and how many modules you need to take to complete your degree.

You are then able to choose the module you intend to study next using the form at the end of this page.

Module availability varies each semester, so you should consider the best order to study optional modules before choosing. If you are unable to take modules in the recommended order, please contact your Teaching Support to discuss.

 

Family & Local History PGCert

You need to take modules that total 60 credits.

  • 20 credits are core modules
  • 40 credits are optional modules

Core modules

You need to choose ONE of these modules. You can take the other as an optional module if you like.

Optional modules

You need to take optional modules that total 40 credits.

Your optional modules can be:

  • any module from optional module list A below

 

Family & Local History PGDip

You need to take modules that total 120 credits.

  • 40 credits are core modules
  • 80 credits are optional modules

Core modules

You need to choose TWO modules, with one from each pair below.

You can take the others as optional modules if you like.

AND

 

Optional modules

You need to take optional modules that total 80 credits.

Your optional modules can be:

  • at least 60 credits worth of modules from optional list A below
  • up to 20 credits from optional module list B

 

Family & Local History MLitt

You need to take modules that total 120 credits.

  • 40 credits are core modules
  • 80 credits are optional modules
  • 60 credits is the dissertation module

Core modules

You need to choose TWO modules, with one from each pair below, plus the dissertation module.

You can take the others as optional modules if you like.

AND

You take the dissertation after your optional modules.

Optional modules

You need to take optional modules that total 80 credits.

Your optional modules can be:

  • at least 60 credits worth of modules from optional list A below
  • up to 20 credits from optional module list B

Core modules

Full semester (15 week) optional modules - List A

Half semester modules - List A

Weeks 1-9

Optional Modules List B

You can study up to 20 credits from list B as part of the PGDip or MLitt courses.

Full semester (15 week) optional modules

Undergraduate (SCQF Level 9) modules (weeks 1-9)

You can only study 10 credits (one module) at undergraduate level.

All other optional credits need to be from the modules above.

  • If you are working on the core & modules you should select the next available one by submitting this form. You will not be automatically added.
  • It is your responsibility to make sure all the correct core modules for your course are completed
  • If you are a CPD student, do not use this form, please complete a new application

Modules will only run if we have enough students registered, so it is important to complete this form by the deadline provided
