How we are preparing for 2020/21 – communication to applicants

Latest applicant communication from Professor Blair Grubb, Vice-Principal Education
I hope you are well and coping with these very strange and difficult times while the world continues to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.
We are continuing with planning to ensure a safe welcome and return to on-campus activity at the University of Dundee when we start the next academic year in October.
The Scottish Government is moving through phased easing of lockdown restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, the number of Covid-19 cases in Scotland remains relatively low compared with other parts of the United Kingdom and is reducing, including here in Tayside and Fife. Our hope is that by October we will see you back on our safe campus environment in Dundee and Fife.
Staff are making a huge effort to prepare timetables and get everything ready for your arrival. We do anticipate some adjustments though to safeguard the health and safety of our University community.
Teaching is still likely to be delivered through a blended approach that includes both face-to-face and online delivery. We will share more details with you in late July/early August.
We hope that further easing of restrictions will continue and more of our work can return to face-to-face delivery, although we will always be guided by Scottish Government public health advice and our commitment to keep everyone safe.
As previously communicated, Semester One teaching will end on Friday 18 December 2020. Teaching in Semester Two will begin on 18 January 2021, and the remainder of the academic session remains as already published
Health and safety measures
We are introducing many health and safety measures to keep all our people safe as our campuses re-open. These include installing hand sanitisers in all buildings; having masks available around the campus; regular and thorough cleaning of University buildings; and signage to support safe movement around buildings on campus and to maintain the correct physical distance.
We have written a new set of guides for being on campus which give more details. We will update the guides throughout the summer and autumn, as the guidance from the Scottish Government is updated.
Graduate Outcomes Survey
I am very pleased to share with you that Dundee is the 4th university in the UK for graduates entering professional occupations according to the latest Graduate Outcomes Survey. We are delighted by this result, which shows that Dundee is one of the top universities in the UK for students looking to work in professional and highly skilled roles after graduation.
Keeping you up to date
We will continue to update you about our plans for 2020/21. Over the summer we anticipate that as the situation continues to become safer, the Scottish Government will move us through the Phased easing of lockdown conditions.
For example, there are likely to be changes to the guidance on travel, self-isolation after entering the UK, social distancing, and how we as a University can operate. You can follow the latest updates from the Scottish Government here.
We will remain in contact with you to keep you updated on the changes that affect you. Please remain alert for email updates from us over the next few months and continue to check our dedicated webpages for applicants.
Best wishes from Dundee,
Professor Blair Grubb, Vice-Principal Education
