Information for Arrival - All Students

Each College and School or Unit will hold induction sessions to welcome new students. These might not take place during Welcome Week itself (Week 0) but could take place in the first week of the semester (Week 1). It's important to attend these events as they will provide you with important information about how your School operates.

In some Schools, this welcome may be relatively informal and will give you the chance to chat with the academic and support staff you will encounter over the period of your course; in other Schools, this might take a more formal format with a series of presentations by your Dean, the academic and administrative staff including the School Secretary. Another approach is to conduct a full day of induction activities which help students to meet others on their courses and interact informally with staff.

Please check your University email and My Dundee as you will be given details about any College/School welcome events nearer the time.

Taught Postgraduates

Practices differ across the University, but in most cases you will have been notified of a date and time when you will meet with your Course Director and other staff who will be lecturing to you. Sometimes a structured 'induction day' will take place where you will be involved in networking activities that will help you to mix with others doing the same course as you as well as talk informally to academic and administrative staff.

However, on some courses the first formal occasion on which you will meet your Course Director will be in the first lecture in the first week of your timetabled lecturing programme.

Research Postgraduates

As a research postgraduate, you will have been in direct correspondence with your academic supervisor before your arrival, and in most instances, you will have been invited to meet with your supervisor at the start of the semester.

If you have any questions, you should contact either your supervisor or the School Office.

Tuition fees need to be paid on or before registration, or at the latest within 30 days of your studies beginning. Please visit the Registry's tuition fee webpage for further information.

Students from outside the UK should also visit our guide to paying your tuition fees.

Arrangements for receiving your student loan will vary depending on which organisation is issuing the loan, but in general you'll get your student loan or grant several days after you matriculate at the start of term. Your money will be paid direct into your bank account except for Tuition Fee Loans which are paid directly to the University.

You'll need to make sure you have access to enough money to survive until you receive the first installment of your loan.

You can choose any GP (doctor's) practice within Dundee and register there.

Remember that all students, including those of you from outside the UK, are eligible for free health care while you're in Scotland, so don't put off registering.

Most of you will have been given login details when you applied to Dundee, although applicant access is limited to the University email system and My Dundee. When you matriculate, your account will automatically be upgraded so that you have full access to the University's IT facilities and systems. Log in using the same username and password that you used as an applicant.
