Advising and Matriculation

Matriculation is when you officially register with the University and make arrangements to pay your fees (except for Exchange programmes), if you have not already done so. In order to undertake a programme of study, and to continue to be enrolled as a student, you must matriculate for each year of your programme - including periods for writing up dissertations or theses.

How to matriculate

First of all, you will meet with an advisor from your School.  During this meeting, you will be given your matriculation form and given instructions as to which matriculation session you should attend.    Arrangements for this will vary, depending on which academic school you belong to, and which course you are studying.

Please check your the On Arrival webpage for your school to find out when this meeting will take place.

Then you must take this form, together with the items below, to a matriculation session, as shown in the timetable:

  • your passport
  • a valid visa
  • qualification certificates for verification
  • your tuition fee, or evidence that part, or all, of your University fees have been or will be paid, i.e. a letter from your sponsor or supporting organisation or the fee in £ sterling

Late matriculation

If you are unable to matriculate during the set times, you should request permission to matriculate late from the Student Records Officer. If you do not, then a Late Matriculation Fee of £70 will normally be payable.

Once you have matriculated

After matriculation, you will have full access to all University networked systems and facilities that support your learning. This includes the University Standard Desktop (also known as SOE) which is supported by Information and Communication Services (ICS).

Your username and password will stay the same. If you want to change or amend your password, use the ICS Password Management Portal service.

In addition, you have access to the libraries, the University email system and My Dundee. You automatically become a member of Dundee University Students' Association and the Sports Union.
