We've asked our students for some suggestions of things you can do in Dundee that won't break the bank. Here are some of the best ones:
What to do for free in Dundee
- Tay Road Bridge - 3km walk on railed footpath from Dundee to Newport. Great river views.
- The Howff - a historic graveyard right in the centre of the city - really interesting and a good place to relax for a while.
- Seal Spotting - walk along the riverside to the Tay Rail Bridge when the tide is out and see seals lying on the sandbanks.
- Climb the Law - great views from the plug of an extinct volcano
- Balgay Hill - nature walk
- Mills Observatory
- McManus Galleries
- Public Libraries - great collections of fiction and non-fiction books
What to do for almost free (involves only bus fare)
- Botanic Garden (show your matriculation card for free student entry)
- Claypotts Castle
- Broughty Ferry Castle and beaches
- St Andrews beaches - take the 99 bus from Dundee's bus station
- Fife Coastal Path - walk along part (or all!) of the Fife coastline
What to do fairly cheaply
- DCA cinema - can get student tickets for only 50p if you go at certain times
