Student Views
Some student views from those who have taken the course:
- This module proved to be an exceptionally well-run and professional affair, and one which any of those in the Class of 2008 would be more than happy to recommend to future students. (class of 2008-09)
- The class gelled together very well. It felt very friendly and there was a general enthusiasm about the course. The topics covered a wide range. There always seemed to be something fresh and interesting. The multi-disciplinary nature of both course and students was stimulating. (class of 2008-09).
- The quality of each member of the teaching staff was excellent. The interdisciplinary approach kept the tutorials stimulating and fulfilling. The content of the course was well structured and the objectives of the course were clearly marked and maintained throughout. (class of 2008-09).
- I really enjoyed this course! (class of 2008-09).
- I found the WCS course stimulating and fulfilling both academically and personally. Our (small) group had different research interests and yet we worked well together and have since become firm friends. The subjects covered offered a good debate each week and the interdisciplinary nature meant that there was always more than one way to look at the topic. Overall I am exceptionally glad I chose to study this course! (Vicky, class of 2009-10)
- I would highly recommend this course to anyone who wishes to learn more about the, often silenced and invisible, lives of women in our society. The multi-disciplinary approach (with contributions from lecturers with expertise in history, philosophy, literature and fine art) means that you begin to build up a rounded picture not just of women's lives in the past but how they were viewed, described and understood. The course challenges students to "read against the grain" and critically analyse the hegemonic discourse that has both seen women as 'other' and overlooked their lives. (Nel, class of 2009-10)
- This course has been an interesting one as it draws on different disciplines. The faculty has really been excellent. (Indrani, class of 2010-11)
