Research/Studies
Sarah is an expert in Scots and EU water law. She researches in both water resources (legal frameworks for water resources management, water rights, water quality) and in the regulation of water services (ownership and regulation of the supply of water and sewerage services). On the water resources side, she is particularly interested in water pollution and the management of water quality, and in the links between science and law-into-policy. She is actively involved in the Centre’s role as regional coordinator of the European HELP basins, and publishes in this area. She is Scottish Editor for the Journal of Water Law and Environmental Law and Management.
Teaching
Sarah has a background in UK higher education as an environmental and water lawyer. She co-delivers the IHP-HELP Centre’s module in comparative national water law, led by Andrew Allan, and she leads the delivery of the module in the regulation of water services. Sarah also delivers a module in national water law on the MSc in Catchment Management, and she is one of the core staff who deliver the School’s PhD seminar programme. She teaches as a guest lecturer in our partner institution UNESCO IHE.
Administration
Sarah is the programme director for the IHP-HELP Centre’s taught Masters programmes, and she is also advisor of studies to the research students (mainly PhD students). She carries out various other administrative functions for the Centre especially in relation to the UNESCO IHP-HELP programme, for which the Centre is the European regional coordinator.
