Dr Alistair Rieu-Clarke is a Senior Lecturer in International Law and heads up the International Water Law Research Cluster at the Dundee IHP-HELP Centre. Alistair’s research interests centre around assessing the effectiveness of transboundary watercourse treaty regimes

EC 7th Framework Programme funded project related to climate change impacts Mountainous regions. Responsible for providing research input related to international law and water resources management.

International Architecture for Transboundary Watercourses Management

UK Department for International Development and WWF-UK funded project in collaboration with Pegaysus Ltd., to evaluate how international laws and institutions in support of transboundary watercourses management might be strengthened.

Strategy and methodology for improved IWRM – An integrated, interdisciplinary assessment in four twinning river basins (STRIVER)

Twinning project to develop multidisciplinary methods for assessing and strengthening IWRM in the Gloma (Norway), Tagus (Spain & Portugal), Thungabhadra (India) and Sesan (Cambodia & Vietnam). Principal investigator for University of Dundee and WP Leader for WP related to stakeholder participation and governance.
2006-2009

Twinning European and South Asian River basins to enhance capacity and implement adaptive integrated water resources management approaches (BRAHMATWINN)

Twinning project focused on the development of IWRM strategies for the upper Danube and upper Brahmaputra river basins. Responsible for governance analysis in both river basins.

The Role and Relevance of the 1997 UN Watercourses Convention for West Africa

Research project in collaboration with WWF International and GWP – West Africa to assess current status of international law related to international watercourses in West Africa, and to evaluate the value added of the 97 UN Watercourses Convention within the region.
