Ms. Yumiko Yasuda is a researcher for the EU funded LiveDiverse project, based at IHP-HELP Centre. Her research area is reviewing governance of biodiversity, water resources and livelihoods in Costa Rica, India, South Africa and Vietnam. Ms. Yasuda joins the IHP-HELP CNESCO Centre with a wide range of environmental governance field experience gained across Asia and the Pacific, as well as experience in corporate social responsibility issues gained both in Japan and Europe.

Research/Studies
Ms. Yasuda’s research interest is in the area of environmental governance, in particular natural resources management and livelihoods improvement in developing countries. Her current area of research is focused through the EU-funded LiveDiverse project in which eight partners study the interface of livelihoods and biodiversity in and around protected areas in Costa Rica, Vietnam, South Africa and India.
Ms. Yasuda contributes to the research through her extensive field experience in working with environmental governance in countries within Asia and the Pacific. She holds MA in environmental Policy from Tufts University (USA), and an MSc in Environmental Science from Tsukuba University (Japan). She is currently pursuing her PhD at the IHP-HELP Centre.Administration
Ms. Yasuda joins IHP-HELP Centre with a range of experience in public, private, and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) sector. Prior to joining IHP-HELP Centre, Ms. Yasuda spent seven years in South East Asia based in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia. She worked as a local livelihoods and sustainable resource use coordinator for the WWF Mekong River Ecoregion, based in Lao PDR. Whilst at the World Wildlife Fund, she supported local capacity building for aquatic resources and river basin management particularly in Vietnam and Cambodia through Wetlands Alliance, a regional partnership for poverty alleviation. Through her work at the United Nations Development Programme Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific, Ms. Yasuda supported forty countries in Asia and the Pacific region, developing projects financed through the Global Environmental Facility, in the area of biodiversity conservation, climate change, and capacity development for complying with Multilateral Environmental Agreements. She was an ecotourism advisor to the Mlup Baitong, a local Cambodian NGO, establishing community based ecotourism site at villages buffering protected area. Ms. Yasuda also worked in the area of corporate social responsibility, while being as an environmental specialist for the global telecommunication company, Ericsson, in Japan and in Sweden.
