After practising as a litigation lawyer for a few years, Hugo completed an LL.M. with Honours in Environmental Law in 2007.
Hugo is now a PhD student under the supervision of Professor Patricia Wouters and Andrew Allan in the national law cluster at the IHP-HELP Centre.
Hugo’s PhD project is on the legal frameworks for freshwater ecosystem protection.

Hugo Tremblay graduated from the Faculty of Law at University of Montreal, Canada, in 2000 and was called to the Québec Bar in 2001.
After practising as a litigation lawyer for a few years, he completed an LL.M. with Honours in Environmental Law at Université Laval in 2007.
Hugo interned at the World Water Council and at the Quebec Watershed Organisations Association. He also acted as consultant for the development of environmental audit protocols for Fisheries and Oceans Canada, as well as for the Québec Bar Association during the Provincial Commission on the Future of Agriculture.
Hugo is now a PhD student under the supervision of Professor Patricia Wouters and Andrew Allan in the national law cluster at the IHP-HELP Centre. His PhD project is on the legal frameworks for freshwater ecosystem protection.
Other current research interest include National Water Law, Groundwater Law, the Human Right to Water, Environmental Flows, Implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), Hydrologic Variability, Climate Change and Atmospheric Waters.
Hugo’s previous research has focused on the legal frameworks regarding groundwater and drinking water in Quebec as well as on the implementation of the Integrated Water Resources Management paradigm.
