Alumni
The IHP-HELP Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science has a strong network of alumni around the world, many of whom were water resources experts prior to their graduate work with us. The Centre now works to consolidate its global network and to support our Alumni around the world, for example Dr Yadgar Ahmaad, (see below), in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Teresa Liguori
Teresa Liguori (below left), a recent IHP-HELP Centre alumna,
graduated with a LLM Water Governance and Conflict Resolution in June
2010. Part of Teresa’s LLM saw her undertake an internship project in
Guatemala where she carried out practical work on the country’s water
law for a Non-Governmental Organisation. Her work on water law reform
has been officially recognised by the Guatemalan Senate Cabinet Office
for Water. Professor Pat Wouters, Director of the IHP-HELP Centre,
said, "Teresa
Liguori has demonstrated remarkable leadership, initiative and
excellence in
her work in Guatemala, showing an intensity of focus of application
second to
none”.
She is the inaugural winner of the Sir Alan Langlands Water Leaders
Prize, which is awarded on an annual basis for the period 2010 - 2019
to the graduating student with the best grades in three core water law
modules, plus their dissertation or equivalent. During the
International Water Law Symposium 2010 she was presented with a £1,000
cash prize and a Crystal Cube (see below) by Sir Alan Langlands, a
former Principal of the University of Dundee and a great supporter of
the IHP-HELP Centre, to mark this achievement.
As part of the 2010 International Water Law Symposium, Sir Alan Langlands presented the first Sir Alan Langlands Water Leaders Prize to Teresa Liguori, an outstanding student who has just obtained a Masters degree from the IHP-HELP Centre.
