Joint RCUWM & IHP-HELP UNESCO Centres Workshop, Kish Island, Iran, April 2011
These are as follows:
- Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM), Tehran, Iran; we ran
our 2010 International Water Symposium with RCUWM and followed up this partnership working with in-country training in Iran in April 2011; we look forward to building upon, and furhter strengthening, our collaborative arrangements with RCUWM in the future.
- International Centre for Coastal Ecohydrology (ICCE), Faro, Portugal, which integrates the worldwide network of 24 UNESCO centres in the field of water sciences in terms, specifically, of coastal areas around the world.
- International Research and Training Centre on Erosion and Sedimentation (IRTCES) Beijing, China. This Centre aims to promote an international exchange of knowledge and cooperation in the study of erosion and sedimentation problems.
- Water Centre for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC)
- Regional Humid tropics Hydrology and Water Resources Centre for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (HTC) Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This Centre aims to strengthen the bonds between scientific research, application and education in the field of humid tropics hydrology and water resources.
- International Centre on Qanats and Historic Hydraulic Structures (ICQHHS), Yadz, Iran. This centre aims to promote research, capacity-building and knowledge transfer on qanats, as well as the preservation of the cultural heritage that qanats represent. The 2011 Category II meeting of all such Centres is likely to take place hosted by ICQHHS.
- Regional Centre for Arid and Semi-Arid Zones of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAZALAC), La Serena, Chile. CAZALAC promotes training, education, scientific research and technological initiatives in the region’s arid and semi-arid zones, where managing water resources are particularly difficult.
- International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM) Tsukuba, Japan. This centre deals with water-related disasters such as floods and droughts, which are major challenges that need to be overcome in order to ensure sustainable human development and poverty alleviation.
- Regional Centre for Shared Aquifer Resources Management (RCSARM) for Sub Saharan Africa and Arab States.
- European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology, Lodz, Poland
- The International Centre for Coastal Ecohydrology, under the auspices of UNESCO, whose role is to contribute and support the creation of knowledge and the promotion of education and capacity building in the area of Coastal Ecohydrology as a basis for achieving the sustainable use of water and coastal ecosystems worldwide.
- The International Centre of Water for Food Security (IC-Water). Its mission is to become an international centre for excellence in strategic research, smart technologies and applied training in integrated water resources management to secure and improve food production, environmental sustainability and communities’ well-being. IC-Water is the host of the HELP programme in Australasia, akin to our role in Europe.
- The Regional Centre for Training and Water Studies of Arid and Semi-arid Zones (RCTWS), 6th of October City, Egypt. The RCTWS aims to provide information on the science and technology of arid and semi-arid zones and promote policies leading to the integrated and sustainable water resources management at the local, regional, and national levels.
- International Center for Integrated Water Resources Management (ICIWaRM) hosted by the Institute for Water Resources (IWR) of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Alexandria, Virginia
- International Groundwater Resources Assessment Centre (IGRAC), Utrecht, Netherlands
- International Centre of Water for Food Security, Charles Sturt University,Wagga, Australia
- HIDROEX Institute for Applied Water Sciences, one of the UNESCO Centres with whom we have particuarly strong links. HIDROEX is a Centre of Excellence of the Minas Gerais Environmental Education Network; we have good links with this Centre.
- International Centre on Water Resources and Global Change, Federal Republic of Germany
- Centre for the Sustainable Management of Water Resources in the Caribbean Island Sates, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
- International Centre on Hydroinformatics for Integrated Water Resources Management, Parque Tecnologico Itaipú Binacional, Paraguay and Brazil
- Regional Centre for Water Management Research in Arid Zones, Pakistan
- Regional Centre on Urban Water Management for Latin America and the Caribbean (CINARA), Cali, Colombia
- Regional Centre for Shared Aquifer Resources Management (RCSARM) Tripoli, Libya
- UNESCO water initiative (not actually a Centre): Internationally Shared Aquifer Resources Management; see our link to at Call for Abstracts: Guarani Aquifer System
- Regional Centre of Mountain Hydrology (Almaty, Kazakhstan) focussing on glacier retreat and its impact on water resources in Central Asia. The meeting called for the creation of a regional centre for glacier research in Central Asia. To be established initially at the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Education and Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
