You wouldn't buy new trainers without trying them on for size, so don't make a decision about the next 3, 4 or 5 years of your life without making sure that your University of choice is the right fit. University Visit Days give you the opportunity to make an informed decision about the course, campus and city that you want to study in.
Let us know in advance which subject areas you are interested in, we can then guarantee a departmental visit. Some departments are very popular and some can only accommodate limited numbers so make sure that you don't miss out.
If you are planning to study a Humanities, Social Science or Science degree, you will combine your area of interest with other subjects in Years 1 or 2. It's a good idea to visit other departments to get a flavour of what these additional subject areas have to offer.
Parking can be tricky on many University campuses, and the University of Dundee cannot offer parking to visitors.
Consider taking public transport to the Visit Day, The campus is just 5 minutes walk from the train station, 10 minutes from the bus station. If you arrive at Dundee Airport, the campus is a 5-10 minute taxi ride.
If driving is your only option take note of the information we will send you about local car parks and buy a 4 hour ticket, which should cover you for the duration of the day.
Take time to think about what are the most important aspects of University life to you and plan the questions that you want to ask before the Visit Day. Some sample questions could include:
The other applicants on the Visit Day could end up being your classmates a few months down the line, so get to know some of the people that could be sharing your University experience with you.
You can keep in touch using your University of Dundee email address.
On the day, you will be bombarded with information on student finance, accommodation, sports facilities, course structure. Pick up the leaflets on offer and note down any web addresses that are recommended by University staff so that you can access this information and refresh your memory when it comes to making your final UCAS decision.
If you want to know more about the content of your degree course, how you will be assessed, how many practical sessions are involved, how comprehensive the reading list is, the academics in the department are the people to ask. Remember to prepare some questions beforehand and try to have these answered during your departmental visit. These course specific queries won't be able to be answered by the otherwise very helpful Admissions Team!
You may have questions regarding entry requirements of a course or issues understanding an offer that we have made you. Our Admissions Helpdesk staff will be happy to answer your query but they will need to understand the full picture in order to help.
Representatives from SAAS, Student Services, Study Abroad and Residences are available at certain points throughout the day to answer specific queries. If you are considering a Year out in the US or moving into Halls of Residence, speak to the experts about the ins and outs of their specialist area.
This is the best way to see what the University has to offer you in the way of facilities. You will take in the Sports Centre, Halls of Residence, IT suites, Libraries and the Student Union as well as getting a feel for the size and scale of the campus. Your tour guides are current students who are in the best position to give you a genuine picture of campus life.
Despite the fantastic facilities on the campus you will have to venture into the City of Dundee at some point so take some time to ensure that the bars, clubs, shops, restaurants, culture and leisure facilities meet your requirements.
