Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design Visit Days

Tues 30th & Weds 31st October 2012

These events have been arranged to give you the chance to see the facilities and hear, first hand, what Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design at the University of Dundee has to offer. It is aimed mainly at people who are thinking of starting University in September 2013 and who will complete their UCAS application this year.

Come on your own, with parents, or as part of a school party. Everyone is welcome to attend including school students, college of further education students, mature students, parents, teachers and careers adviser.

What will happen on the day?

We have a range of talks & tours covering all aspects of your time in Dundee. On our booking form you can arrange the day to suit yourselves, and if you wish to have your parents attend a talk while you tour the studios or divide up the events in any other way.

• Dean's welcome: the Dean of the College, Tom Inns, will give an introduction to DJCAD
• Subject talks: find out more about the structure of the programmes we offer, with lots of opportunity to ask any questions you may have, these will last approximately 20-30 minutes
• Studio tours: student led tours of the studios will run throughout the day, giving you the chance to see the studios, and current projects taking place, these will last approximately one hour, and set off every 30 minutes from the Registration area
• Finance talks: tailored for the different funding groups
• Study Abroad talks: find out more about the popular option of spending a semester or a year abroad as part of your course
• Admissions Surgery: want to know if your subject choice is right ? For accurate advice on offers and subject choices, meet one of our Admissions Advisers who will be available from 12-2pm to help
• Campus tours: visit the facilities that have made us No. 1 in the UK (Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2011/12), these tours will include a visit to our self-catered accommodation

What should I go to on the Visit Day?

You may be applying to the first year General Foundation Course or you may wish to apply for direct entry to the 2nd year specialism if you have the minimum requirements. 

The talks programme on the Visit Day is designed to give an insight into the structure and content of specialisms DJCAD offer.  Some of you may be interested in one or more, so this is your chance to find out what we have to offer. 

Our specialisms fall into specific programmes and you should attend the talk or talks that interest you.  Not sure about a particular area? Attend the talk to find out more!

If you intend to apply to the General Foundation Course or are looking for advice on the content, presentation, submission and overall selection process come along to the Art & Design General Foundation Portfolio session at 11am or 2pm. (All programmes except Architecture & the Social Digital Programmes can be entered via the General Foundation Course.)

DJCAD degree programmes

General Foundation Programme – Art & Design & Portfolio Submission

First year entry level to all the specialisms (expect Digital Interaction Design and Product Design).

Design & Craft Programme

Talks will cover the programme structure/content and how students within each of these specialist pathways work together to develop and understanding of wider design and craft issues:

• Interior Environmental Design
• Jewellery & Metal Design
• Textile Design

Communication Design Programme

Talks will cover the programme structure/content and how students undertaking this, work together to develop an understanding of wider communication design issues whilst following their chosen subject specific pathway:

• Animation
• Graphic Design
• Illustration

Art & Media Programme

Find out about the programme structure/content and how students within each of these specialist pathways work together to develop and understanding of wider art and media issues:

• Art, Philosophy, Contemporary Practices (APCP)
• Fine Art
• Time Based Art & Digital Film

Social Digital Programme

• Digital Interaction Design
• Product Design

Architecture is part of the School of the Environment & is open to visitors.  Please note Architecture applicants can only apply directly to this programme and cannot come via the General Foundation Course.

Do I need to book?

We expect around 2,000 visitors plus parents/friends, and booking is essential to ensure that you can attend the talks you want.

Do I need to register on the day?

Yes - please register on arrival – if you have booked a tour please register where the guided tours begin, 5 minutes before your tour start time. If you are making your own way around the college please register in the main foyer and collect a map of the college.
