We have a lot of key information for students applying to us from different learning environments, so if you don't find what you're looking for email us at: fecollege@dundee.ac.uk
The transition from a Further Education College environment to a University could be somewhat daunting without the right preparation. We all have our own ideas of what it's like studying at a university. The intense pressure of learning, the hours spent partying, the discipline to study on your own, meeting those deadlines on-time and of course, those students who never seem to have any problems - and still manage to party 24/7!!
Realistically, a commitment to studying for a number of years for a degree which, hopefully, will broaden your life skills and career opportunities, is awe-inspiring. We at the University recognise individuals' aspirations, as well as their commitment, so far, to their learning experiences through college and now here at Dundee University.
That is why we have many specialised people in place to offer advice and supporting your degree journey. Whether you need admissions, academic or finance advice or, just a friendly chat with our student mentors, contact details are but a click of your mouse away.
The University provides support in a number of areas that meet academic, academic-related and welfare needs of the student population. These include:
Many students progress successfully to graduation with very few issues or support needs, but it helpful to know if any issues arises, we have the support and advice in place – all you have to do is ask- sooner rather than later.
Mature students make up an increasingly large number within our student population and enhance and enrich the University experience for all.
The University has many admissions routes into the degree programmes for students from further education colleges, for example HNC, HND, Access to Higher Education and SWAP courses. Visit our How to Apply pages for more information.
We have many Articulation Agreements with the further education colleges in Scotland for students applying to the University of Dundee.
These Articulation Agreements state the required entry conditions which for example, indicate the most relevant courses, include specific grades in particular units or attending an interview or submitting a portfolio or even work experiences related to the degree programme. For more information contact us.
In general:
Each degree programme has its own admissions conditions for example, passing specific HN units related to the degree subject and achieving specific grades in the units. For degree programmes such as LLB Law and BEd Primary Education, entry would normally only be offered to Level 1 due to the professional bodies curriculum requirements. We recommend that you confirm these entry requirements and conditions before applying.
We are very actively expanding our links with the further education colleges and Articulation Agreements currently exist with a number of Scotland's Colleges.
For more information regarding articulation and admissions conditions e-mail us at fecollege@dundee.ac.uk
We can offer admissions advise course content, level and any admissions conditions you may be required to meet. Application to a degree programme must be made on-line at UCAS. Most courses excluding medicine and dentistry have a deadline for applications of January 15. Students can apply later in the cycle via UCAS Extra but should be aware many courses may have no remaining places following the first round of applications. When we receive your UCAS application we will holistically assess past and current academic achievements, work experience and life skills. We are keen to learn about your personal aspirations and your reasons for choosing the course in your personal statement within your UCAS application.
In your final semester at Further Education College, thinking of applying, but still not sure if you have chosen the right subject or University or do you just want that student experience for a day?
Joining one of our students and spending time 'shadowing' them is an opportunity to experience lectures, tutorials or attending a workshop during your day on our City Campus. Student Shadowing offers you a unique insight into the whole student learning experience as our City Campus is so compact and accessible, you could also visit the Library and Learning Centre and the Institute of Sports and Exercise accompanied by our student.
For more information, visit the Student Shadowing webpage.
Scottish students residing in Scotland and intending to study at the University will pay no Tuition Fees currently. To meet your other expenses you would apply to the Students Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for a Student Loan to pay for your day to day study-related costs or your accommodation. Extra support is available for students with disabilities or for assistance towards childcare costs and your travel cost to and from home to University.
A Young Students' Bursary is available for all eligible young students if your family income is under £18,820 a year.
Entering at Level 1 of a four year undergraduate degree programme with an HNC, SAAS will fully fund your tuition fees. Entering Level 2 with an HND of a 4 year degree programme, SAAS will fund your tuition fees to Level 4.
It's a good idea to investigate what financial support is available as soon as possible. This will give you time to fully consider the best course and study options for you and discuss any issues with family and friends.
To start the process of applying to the University of Dundee we encourage students to visit us, either on a visit organised through your College or on one of our many Visit Days or on an individual visit. Students find the opportunity to tour the Campus, meet with current students and visit subject areas invaluable. We would advise all students to visit as part of their decision making process to find the right course, campus and city for them. For more information, visit our Visit Days webpage.
We also offer Student Shadowing, where you can join one of our students for a whole day, to find out what University life is really like. For more information, visit our Student Shadowing webpage.
We are part of the TAP project which offers SWAP students the opportunity to take part in University preparation sessions and visit universities in November each year at the University of Dundee, University of Abertay and St Andrews University. For more information, visit their website.
