For Parents & Families

The information on our Parents & Families pages has been designed for parents/guardians, but may also be useful to other family members and partners of students who are about to start University.

We would like to provide you with suggestions and advice covering a range of issues from applications to student loans, as your student family member prepares to enter University.

Your questions

We are asked many questions by parents, and the last five years have seen an incredible increase in the number of parents visiting, e-mailing and phoning the University in search of information and in response we have compiled a guide to both the admissions cycle and student life at the University of Dundee.

You view our online guide: A Guide from Application to Arrival. We hope that you find it useful and informative and we look forward to meeting you at one of our Visit Days.

We also have a page of Frequently Asked Questions, together with answers, which you also hope you will find helpful.

If a member of your family has applied to the University of Dundee you wish to be kept informed with news and details of the application process, please sign up for more information.

Other Factors

You may understandably be concerned about student loans and debt and whether studying for a degree is a good investment. Here are some of the reasons to bear in mind when considering financial support.

Arguments for a Degree

A degree:

Campus Friendliness

Our student campus is contained within the city centre giving easy access to university buildings and a mere 5 minute walk to the city centre. Dundonians are known for their warmth and university staff are delighted to welcome all students to our campus which combines the modern and technologically advanced with the traditional. In the 2007 Endsleigh Insurance Survey Dundee was the 3rd safest city in the UK. For added peace of mind the campus is covered by security cameras.

Opportunities

Here at Dundee we strive to give students an enjoyable and enriching experience so that students achieve their full potential and have serious fun whilst at Dundee. Please encourage your son or daughter to take part in the many sport and activity clubs here at Dundee. It is a great way to meet many new friends as well as well keep fit, develop or enhance a skill or interest with those that share the same interests.

We would also ask that you encourage your son or daughter if in doubt to ask. There are always staff, students or peer connectors here to offer support, advice and guidance.
