UCAS applications can be made between 1 September and normally 15 January preceding the September when you wish to commence your studies (or the better part of two years in advance if applying for deferred entry to have a 'year out').
There is an earlier closing date of 15 October for applications to Medicine or Dentistry.

Selection is determined by meeting the entry requirements, a good academic reference and an appropriate personal statement. It is important to understand the applicant’s motivation for the course of study and for selecting the University of Dundee. The application form, personal statement, references, experience, examination results, interviews, and attendance at visit days all can give an insight into motivation. Evidence of work experience is needed for some courses to demonstrate the applicant has taken steps to find out about the profession they hope to enter. Applicants will receive guidance where the selection process incorporates an interview. The guidance will include information on the format of the interview, procedures, the criteria and means by which applicants will be judged. All applicants will receive written confirmation of the outcome of the interview process.
A portfolio of work demonstrating creative ability may be requested for Architecture, Art & Design and related courses.
Throughout the selection process, all decisions will involve a minimum of two staff members. This includes invites to interview and offer decisions.
After an offer of admission is made, applicants are invited to join us for a Post-Application Visit before deciding whether to accept.
The main exception to this process is Study Abroad students who apply directly to the University for a placement of one or two semesters.Some courses hold interviews as part of the selection process. The interview visit will provide an opportunity to see round the campus as well as meeting staff and students from the department interviewing you.
The majority of courses do not interview but give successful applicants (those receiving an offer of admission) the opportunity to find out more on a Post-Application Visit.

As part of the interview visit day applicants will have a chance to see the University at first hand and to speak informally to staff and students.

If the course to which you have applied does not interview, you will be invited to a Post-Application Visit after an offer of admission is made.
UCAS allows our admissions tutors to make three types of offers of admission:
When the exam results are announced and if the required passes have been obtained the offer will become an unconditional one meaning the student has definitely got a place.
Depending on the demand for the number of available places on a course it may be possible to confirm a conditional offer even if the conditions and in particular the grades of passes specified have not quite been achieved. The most popular courses have to adhere strictly to the exact terms of a conditional offer and there is no scope for confirming an offer to a student who has just missed making the required grades.
