The Maths modules listed below will be offered in academic year 2012-2013. Please note that the modules listed may be subject to change and that final module selection will depend on academic approval of your module choice at both the point of application and the academic advising session before Matriculation.

15 credits, Semester 1
Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Fourier Series.

MA32002 - Mathematical Methods

15 credits, Semester 1
Coordinate systems, scalar and vector fields, vector operators, vector integrals, fundamental field equations.

MA32001 - Analysis

15 credits, Semester 1 (odd years only)
Convergence, continuity, closedness, completeness, Banach theorem, differentiation, Mean Value Theorem, Riemann Integral, Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, function sequences.

MA32001 - Operational Research

15 credits, Semester 1 (odd years only)
Linear programming, transportation problems, network programming, model building.

MA 32005 - Fundamentals of Scientific Computing

15 credits, Semester 2
Computer arithmetic and round-off errors, direct methods for solving linear systems of equations, iterative methods for solving linear systems, iterative methods for eigenvalue problems, using MATLAB to solve problems in linear algebra.

MA32006 - Complex Analysis

15 credits, Semester 1 (even years only)
Functions of a complex variable, residue calculus, the fundamental theorem of algebra, conformal mapping.

MA32007 - Differential Geometry

15 credits, Semester 2
Manifolds, differential forms, exterior algebra, integration of forms, Lie derivates.

MA32008 - Graph Theory

15 credits, Semester 1 (even years only)
Brief historical survey, connectedness, Eulerian and Hamiltonian graphs, trees, graph colourings, planar and non-planar graphs.

MA41002 - Mathematical Biology I

15 credits, Semester 2
Using mathematical techniques to model: single species population dynamics, interacting species and molecular dynamics.

MA41006 - Mathematics of Fluids and Plasmas I

15 credits, Semester 2
Fluid dynamics including: conservation laws, common fluid approximations, vorticity, waves, viscous flow, turbulence and chaos.
