The guiding spirit and inspiration behind the concept was Berkeley Moynihan, later Lord Moynihan of Leeds, who had been struck by the lack of cohesion among surgeons as early as 1909.

Yeovil Laparoscopic Surgical Unit

Since 2002, the laparoscopic unit at Yeovil District Hospital have implemented an enhanced recovery programme for their patients. This has produced excellent results with a shortened post-operative stay and a very low re-admission rate. The faculty now hold regular courses in the Yeovil Academy to share their expertise with a wider audience.
