Transatlantic Student Exchange: Outgoing Students

Would you like to spend a year in North America? Every year 30 to 40 Dundee undergraduate students take part in the Transatlantic Student Exchange (TSE) Scheme.  The TSE programme will not only allow you to experience another culture, but it was also give your CV a competitive edge in today’s competitive job market.

Am I eligible?

The Transatlantic Student Exchange Programme (TSE) is open to students for one semester or a full year in 2nd year.  In addition some students may be able to go for a single semester or a full year in their 3rd year.

Students currently in the first year of any of the following degree courses are eligible for the TSE programme:

The exchange program is not available to students studying on the following degree courses:

Please note:

The credit that you gain for modules studied abroad will transfer back to Dundee.  Each school at Dundee has an academic co-ordinator who will advise you on which modules and classes will be most suitable

How much will it cost?

You will retain your entitlement to student loans, grants and bursaries while you are overseas and the additional cost may be less than you first think.

You will need to research the cost of your flight across the Atlantic, any travel you may undertake while over there, plus insurance (remember that you will require both travel and health insurance for the US and Canada), but you may be able to offset these costs to some extent by taking up part-time work during your study programme.

Where can I study?

We currently have 9 exchange partners in both the US and Canada.  Some of the institutions are located in larger cities whereas others are in more in rural areas.  Please consider your choices carefully. Each of the partners offers a wide range of activities for international students, whether this be a weekly trip to Walmart to pick up your shopping, a weekend in New York City or a week in Florida during the holidays so do not rule a university out solely on location.

How do I apply?

If you would like to study abroad for semester 1 or for the full year of the following academic year, we must receive your application by 5pm on 30 November.  If you wish to study abroad in semester 2 of the following academic year, we must receive your application by 5pm on 31 March.  To apply for our programme, download our Student Exchange Outgoing Application Form in either Word or PDF format. Please also see our Application Process

How can I find out more?

Between September and November the Global Programmes Team will give various presentations regarding the exchange opportunities for undergraduate. Details will be advertised on HERMES, Facebook and Twitter nearer the time.  You may also receive email notification on these events from your school office.
