There are two intakes each year - January & September, the course lasts for 12 months.
Teaching will involve a mixture of lecture style-delivery, workshops, student presentations, student-led discussion sessions, computer laboratory-based sessions and guest speakers from the accountancy profession and practice.
The learning environment will encourage your participation in your own learning experience in order to nurture independent life-long learning and the development of professional and generic skills.
There are five compulsory taught modules:
- Audit, Assurance and Professional Ethics
- Professional Financial Management
- Professional Financial Reporting
- Professional Management Accounting
- Tax Compliance and Fiscal Studies
Plus a student-led Professional Accountancy Project - this comprises individual student work focused on the accountancy profession and/or practice and will be supervised by staff. The project includes an extended literature review, which may include company analysis, capturing relevant academic literature, professional accountancy pronouncements, professional publications, the financial press and use of specialist software, as appropriate.
Assessment of taught modules will be a mixture of unseen examinations and coursework assignments. To meet ACCA professional body accreditation criteria, each accredited module will incorporate a 3 hour unseen final examination which contributes to at least 50% of the final module grade.
Successful completion of this course enables student to claim exemption from ACCA Fundamental Papers: F1 to F9. Thus, graduates of this programme will be partly professionally qualified with ACCA and can seek employment in the accountancy profession where they may chose to complete their ACCA professional qualification.
Alternatively, ACCA professional exams can be completed full time with education providers operating in many different countries across the globe.

Entry Requirements: An honours degree at 2.1, or above, in accounting or a related discipline with significant accounting content will normally be required, though a consideration of relevant and advanced professional practical experience will also be considered.

English Language Pre-Sessional Programmes
We offer Pre-Sessional programmes throughout the year and Foundation Programme(s) for both undergraduate and postgraduate students which start at the beginning of the academic year. These programmes are all designed to prepare you for university study in the UK when you have not yet met the language requirements for direct entry onto a degree programme. Successful completion of these programmes guarantees progression to various degrees at the University of Dundee as long as you hold a relevant offer.
The 30 week (one Academic Year) Foundation Programme(s) allow applicants who have not met our typical academic entry requirements, and require additional English Language support by up to 1.0 IELTS, to gain the necessary qualifications to enter the University of Dundee degree programmes in the following year.
The 24 week Pre-Sessional programme (March – August) provides additional English Language tuition for students who do not meet our minimum English Language requirements by up to 1.0 IELTS and the 10 week Pre-Sessional programme (June – August) (October – December) provides specialist English Language tuition for students who are 0.5 IELTS below the requirement for their degree programme.
There have been many changes to the arrangements for funding students entering higher education in recent years, yet a degree from the University of Dundee, with its high rate of employment success, remains a cost-effective option.
