The Student Support Team in University Residences consists of a Student Support Worker (SSW), a Deputy SSW and a further 9 Student Support Assistants (SSA). There is one SSA responsible for a number of Flats/Villas in each residence. All SSA are students with first hand experience and understanding of student life away from home and do undergo specialised training. They live in university residences and are a convenient first contact for every one with a welfare problem.
Additionally, the Peer Connections Team, the University Chaplain and her team of Honorary Chaplains, and the Student Pastoral Support Manager, work closely with our team to provide even better welfare support in Residences.
The Student Support Team will deal with any issues which affect the welfare of residents within the University Residences and in particular with:
They will also help to direct students to appropriate services within the University. Although they will not deal with discipline matters as such, they will provide full co-operation with the Authorised Officer for discipline in the University when necessary.
Get to know your Student Support Assistants when you move in to residences and keep in touch with them throughout your stay.
