SAAS Top 10 Tips for students

  1. Have all your information ready before completing your form, ie. National Insurance Number; course details; bank account details, and valid address.
  2. Read all the information on the screen and make sure you understand it before completing the form. If you do not understand something, use the pin-point help points or use the help menu at the top of the page.
  3. Take your time in going through the form. Once it has been submitted, you cannot make any changes to it other than contacting SAAS direct.
  4. Apply to SAAS as soon as you have an offer of a place at university. Do not wait to see if you get the results pending for a conditional offer. It is easier to cancel or adjust an application than it is to start one with only a short time in which to complete it.
  5. Keep to the deadlines: they are there for a reason. Give yourself plenty of time to complete the application to allow for modifications and amendments. This will allow time for SAAS to respond if you encounter any problems.
  6. If you have e-mailed SAAS with a query or problem, be realistic about the time it will take for them to reply. Allow 28 working days for a response, perhaps longer when it is their busy times eg. July and August.
  7. Have someone other than yourself read over the application before submitting it, to check for accuracy and consistency.
  8. Before contacting SAAS with a query, make use of their Frequently Asked Questions section on their web-page. You may find that your query has been answered already.
  9. Be aware that during the busy summer months of July and August, the phone lines at SAAS will be under pressure from students waiting to get through. Phone early in the morning to get a better chance of speaking to someone. Also note that calls made from mobiles are more expensive than landline calls.
  10. If you do phone SAAS about a query, have all your information ready. That way, the problem should be resolved quickly and you do not run the risk of having to call back later when you have the needed information
