Peer Mediation's purpose is to provide you with direct assistance to resolve interpersonal disputes. This could be between flatmates, hall mates, boyfriends and girlfriends, or any other student.
Common issues include:
Neutral mediators (trained by Peer Connections) encourage both parties to define the issues themselves and work towards creating a resolution which is agreeable to those involved.
Initially the mediators will meet with each party individually. Then both sides will come together at a meeting with the mediators. If the parties reach an agreement, it can be formalised and put into writing. The process typically takes 1-2 hours altogether, but will vary depending on the case.
This process is intended to be impartial. The mediators do not decide who is right or wrong but simply assist the parties to reach their own agreement.

Peer Connectors and Student Support Assistants can train to become Peer Mediators - an additional role. A further 2 consecutive sessions of specialised training (8 hours total) must be completed.
The role of Peer Mediator is separate to the support role - you will not mediate for students you are supporting.
