Occasionally, situations occur in which members of staff or students are involved in critical incidents such as attempted suicide, serious injury or death. Often it may be another staff member or a student who becomes aware of the incident, or they may have serious concerns about the well being of a colleague or friend. The University recognises the need to provide support in any of these circumstances and the incident response team on campus is there to assist you.
In the event of an incident in which someone has been injured, seek medical assistance without delay by dialling the following numbers which always give access to the emergency services -
Be ready to provide the operator with details of the service required, and the location of the incident. Please try to remain there to ensure that the incident is found as quickly as possible.
Once you are sure that appropriate emergency help has been sought, you should then contact the duty janitor at the University Tower reception desk (3-88188) and inform them of the situation. The janitor will then make contact with one or more members of the following team -
Someone from the team will then contact you as soon as possible.
Members of the above team will be happy to offer advice and/or support to members of staff dealing with (non-critical) situations relevant to their respective areas of expertise during office hours - full details of all Student Services are available on our services section.
Please remember that when an incident does occur, the University or the police or fire service may have to investigate the circumstances. Information should not be given to the media because the University Press Office will deal with all subsequent enquiries.
For emergencies dial the "Getting help" numbers detailed above.
For off campus emergencies requiring police/ fire/ ambulance dial 999.
