Dental Registration

Like everywhere in Britain, many dentists no longer provide registration for NHS treatment.

The University Health Service therefore advises everyone, students and staff alike, to register with a dentist as soon as possible after arriving in Dundee.

There are still some dentists who will take on new clients for NHS treatment. Find all dentists within the local area through the Yellow Pages. Unfortunately each dental practice changes on a regular basis as to whether they have space to take on new NHS clients or not so the University Health Service is unable to provide an up-to-date list. Please contact dentists directly.

NHS Treatment

Dental check ups are free but you will have to pay 80% of the costs for treatment, if registered with an NHS dentist. However if you are aged between 18 and 19 years in full time education then you are exempt from costs. There are other exemptions, but unlikely to cover students, details available from your dentist.

Private Treatment

Most dentists have several different options to pay for dental treatment, including monthly payments through a private dental scheme. Contact individual dentists for details.

Dental Hospital

The Dental Hospital has an Emergency Department where you can attend between 9am - 3pm on a first come, first served basis, (so be prepared to wait) but they will not undertake routine treatment.
