Services for Disabled Students

Every student at the University of Dundee is treated as an individual. Our aim is to enable disabled students to identify the most appropriate support for their individual needs in the context of their chosen course of study. We offer a range of confidential services but ask students' permission to enable us to disclose their support requirements to specific University staff in order for appropriate support to be put in place.

The main services offered to disabled students are:

Disabled students are encouraged to discuss their support requirements with one of our Advisers as soon as possible. In this way, the most appropriate support can be identified, implemented as far as possible and modified in response to the student's individual needs. Please contact us if you would like to make an appointment to see one of our Advisers. This is particularly important if you require any adjustments to examination arrangements.

The type of support offered will depend on the individual nature of your disability and an assessment of your needs in the context of your course and study requirements. Under the Equality Act, the term 'disability' includes a wide range of physical and sensory impairments, mental health difficulties and specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia.

To receive the most appropriate support you are encouraged to register with Disability Services as soon as possible and to provide us with confirmation of your disability from a recognised practioner e.g. your Doctor or Consultant. If you have Dyslexia, or another Specific Learning Disability, you may need a full assessment by a Chartered Psychologist. Please contact our Dyslexia Service for further details. Please note that you do not need to register with Disability Services in order to speak to one of our Advisers in confidence.
