Services for Staff

The main services offered to University staff are:

• Information and advice on a wide range of disability-related issues, including making reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act and delivering inclusive services and teaching/assessment practices.
• Provision of useful guidance and resources to support all aspects of the University's activities.
• Reasonable adjustments to meet the needs of individual disabled students. These are sent to departmental Disability Support Officers (DSOs).
• Guidance on information for disabled applicants and students in module/programme specifications and recruitment material.
• Advice on accessible curriculum design and delivery in line with Teachability criteria and the University's QAF Equality and Diversity guidance.
• Advice on submissions to the University's Inclusive Practice Website and for the Inclusive Practice Award in liaison with the University's Web Accessibility Service and Educational Development.
• Advice on creating accessible and alternative formats of teaching, publicity and other materials through our Alternative Formats Service.
• Training and development on disability issues. Disability Services' staff present at staff induction days and at training sessions offered through the University's staff development programmes. We provide training on a range of disability-related topics, including the University's responsibilities under the Equality Act and the Public Sector Equality Duty. We also offer bespoke training to support individual School/Service needs. Contact Disability Services for further details and to discuss your requirements.
• Information on disability-related conferences and other external training events.
• Advice and support for disabled staff including Access to Work needs assessments. Disabled staff may be eligible to apply for support through the Government's Access to Work programme. Contact Disability Services or the University's Occupational Health Service for further details and advice. A video of the Access to Work process is also available.
