Mission Statement
The mission of Disability Services is to provide a professional, confidential and responsive service to support the needs of disabled students and staff. We are committed to the provision of a truly inclusive and equitable learning and working environment that fosters a University experience of the highest quality for all students and staff.
We aim to:
- Identify and support disabled students' and staff individual needs, including all reasonable adjustments;
- Develop communication channels that enable the effective, consistent and timely communication of disabled students' and staff needs;
- Assist students in their applications for the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) and staff in accessing Access to Work funding, and offer advice on other sources of funding;
- Provide a professional, study and work-needs assessment service;
- Provide accessible, up-to-date facilities for the evaluation of a wide range of enabling technologies;
- Provide training in the use of enabling technology;
- Provide a dyslexia support service, including access to screening, diagnostic and study skills services;
- Provide information, advice and staff development opportunities that support the development of accessible teaching, assessment and working practices and inclusive University services, and support the University's compliance with the Equality Act;
- Provide information on other related service providers;
- Regularly review the Service's operation and provision in response to user feedback;
- Raise the profile of Disability Services to broaden awareness of our services and facilities;
- Undertake research and development activities that make a positive contribution to the disability field and enhance the reputation of Dundee University.
