Welcome to Disability Services
What do we do?
- Provide a range of confidential services for disabled students and staff.
- Provide specialist information and advice to all University staff, including identifying reasonable adjustments to meet the needs of disabled people.
- Liaise closely with all Academic Schools and Student and Academic Support Services across the University.
- Provide training opportunities for all staff to raise awareness of disability issues and to support staff in providing an inclusive learning and working environment.
- Develop disability-related guidance and policy, including procedures for handling disability disclosure.
- Advise the University of its responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act and related legal/quality assurance requirements.
Disability Support Officers (DSOs)
Disability Support Officers
operate throughout the University.
What do Disability Support Officers do?
- Act as the first point of contact for disabled students in their School/Service, particularly to advise on course requirements.
- Liaise with Disability Services to ensure information on disabled students' needs is communicated to all relevant staff with the student's consent, including visiting lecturers and placement providers.
- Help colleagues to meet the support needs of disabled students in their School/Service, including forwarding information from Disability Services on training opportunities and disability-related resources.
